A very crafty weekend: Crocheting, diamond painting, and jewelry making

I spent my weekend watching Our Planet on Netflix (which is FANTASTIC) and doing a whole lot of crafting.

When I came home Friday, I immediately pulled out this afghan and started working on it.

The pattern is by Kristine in Between and it is super easy. And you can make it unique because the stripes are based on a random number generator. I ended up following Kristine’s exact breakdown, just because I really liked the way hers looks.

It’s been almost a year since I started it and it really feels like I’ve been working on this blanket forever. But at the same time, I barely ever touch it, so I haven’t made a ton of progress in the last year.

It’s been sitting in my yarn bag for the past few months, but now I’m really forcing myself to work on it. I’m making a tentative goal to finish it by the end of August, which means crocheting a row almost every day. Hopefully that’s an attainable goal and I’ll have a nice new blanket to keep me warm in the fall and winter…

When I finish, this will have been one of my largest projects – knitting or crocheting – and one of my first completed crocheting projects. I was pretty down on crocheting for a while, believing that knitting was somehow better or more versatile, but I’m glad I gave it a try because I think I like crocheting even more than knitting!

Hopefully those are still my feelings when I finish this absolute beast of a project.

I also made a trip to A.C. Moore, where I bought a diamond painting kit and some pendants to stick paper in. I’ve been wanting to try a diamond painting for a while, and I’m glad I finally gave it a shot.

I also spent Saturday night experimenting with those pendants I bought. I know most book lovers will gasp at me in horror, but I cut up an old copy of Sense and Sensibility and used it to make a necklace. It had been sitting on my shelf for over five years, and I knew I was never going to read it. Better to make use out of it than let it keep gathering dust on my bookshelf, I figured.

I’m very pleased with how it turned out, and I’m thinking that after a few more tweaks, I might even add these to my Etsy shop.

Overall, it was a pretty relaxing weekend. Which is good, because tonight I’m heading to NYC to see my favorite band, Muse, perform live. I’ve been looking forward to this for months, and I’m so happy the show is finally here!
